Rick Purnell

Rick Purnell is a senior associate with Demeter Communications. He offers nearly 25 years of experience as a marketing strategist, much of it within the public relations discipline. He has counseled a broad range of agricultural companies and producer organizations. Rick's work has been recognized by the National AgriMarketing Association, Livestock Publications Council and International Association of Business Communicators.

Rick is familiar with the needs, challenges and opportunities of agriculture producers firsthand from his experience executing programs for Pioneer (a DuPont Company), United Soybean Board, Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council, American Angus Association, Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, Hoechst Roussell Vet, Bayer CropScience, and EMD Crop Bioscience, among others.

A native Oklahoman, he's lived and worked in the Texas Panhandle, Kansas and Missouri. Rick is currently based in Palm Springs, California.

Random Acts

During most free time you can find Rick with his Australian Shepherd, Maddie, hiking in the mountains around Palm Springs or in the Mecca Hills, smack-dab in the middle of the San Andreas Fault.
He enjoys exploring Death Valley every chance he gets.
While attending Oklahoma State University, he worked in the local emergency room.

Brushes with Greatness

Rick has been named a Graduate of Distinction by the College of Agriculture at Oklahoma State University.
One night in Minneapolis, he literally bumped into singers Joe Diffee and Lyle Lovett, and wrestler Hulk Hogan in a 30-minute time span.
He was seated next to Barry Manilow at a local theater performance and had a great conversation with him that continued long after the play was over. It may not be much, but for this Oklahoma country boy he found Manilow to be a genuinely nice and sincere guy.
